Series and parallel resistances, power distribution, Kirchhoff’s voltage law, Kirchhoff’s current law, voltage divider rule, current divider rule, open and short circuits.
3. UAnalysis Techniques (dc)U
Source conversions, Mesh analysis, Nodal analysis, bridge networks, Δ-Y, Y-Δ conversions.
4. UNetworks Theorems (dc)U
Superposition theorem, Thevenin’s theorem, Norton’s theorems, maximum power transfer theorem,
Millman’s theorem, substitution theorem, reciprocity theorem.

Introduction to physical models, physical contacts and conversion factors, the photoelectric effect, atomic spectra, the Bohr model, quantum mechanics, the Schrödinger wave equation, tunnelling, the hydrogen atom.
3. UPhotonic DevicesU
The quantum theory of radiation, proprieties of photons, collision between photons and practices, wave and particle duality of matter, photonic effect, Einstein’s photoelectric equation, long wavelength limit, photoelectric wave function, laws of photoelectric emission, the wave nature of light.
4. UEnergy Bands and Charge Carriers in SemiconductorsU
Bonding forces and energy bands in solids, properties of semiconductor materials, derivation of the density of states in the conduction band, derivation of Fermi–Dirac statistics, charge carriers in semiconductors, carrier concentrations, drift of carriers in electric and magnetic fields, invariance of the Fermi level at equilibrium.
